Whether it is a BBQ that becomes a team effort, or a batch of cookies that your toddler can help to ice – cooking together is healthy and good fun. Children love to express themselves through food and getting amongst the stirring, baking, rolling, frying and cutting is an amazing experience. Whilst you may need a bigger clean up at the end, the smiles and laughter will be well worth an extra sink full of suds. And don’t think to just bring the kids in at the final stages. Children love to try to cook from scratch – let them – they will enjoy the feeling of control and independence and you will be amazed at what they can actually achieve. But don’t let on that they are actually working on their maths, reading, co-ordination, sequencing and problem solving skills at the same time!
