Whilst studying psychology and music at Melbourne University, it was the time spent serving up platters of luscious Italian dishes at Tony Sassi’s Bistro in Carlton that was a true pivotal moment in my life. It was then I fell in love with Italians, their passion and their food. Oversized mountains of pasta arrabbiata, piles of market fresh seafood and the famous Mama’s cake, laced with liquor were the reward for effort in the early hours of the morning around a communal family table. Here I was introduced to Italy – family style. Loud voices, yelling, tears, laughter, and food. Gorgeous, flavour filled food. I was hooked.
